The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has called on the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to increase efforts to decongest Ghana's capital city.
That is because, according to GNFS, decongesting the city would go a long way to reduce the high number of fire outbreaks reported in the city.

He told Accra-based Citi FM that "where you have a commercial shop where people are using stoves with charcoal and they are cooking on a commercial basis and they also have a welding shop close to where the cooking is ongoing, the city authories need to ensure sanity by making sure the decongest the area.”
The city authorities have already began demolishing illegal structure from the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange area and served notices to many others to vacate or face forceful eviction.
