Soldier detained over Flagstaff House 'brutality video' released

The 45-year-old military officer, name withheld, was released at 7:00pm on Tuesday February 21 after he was detained on Friday February 17.

His wife told Accra-based Class FM that her husband and another detained soldier were questioned, made to sign a bail bond and asked to report to the BNI on Friday, February 24.

The 45-year-old officer is said to have been on duty at the Flagstaff House when the assault on the senior police officer took place on January 9, the first Monday after President Akufo-Addo's inauguration ceremony.

The officer, who is believed to be part of the guards at the Flagstaff House during the John Mahama administration, was seen in a video moving out of the premises of the presidency.

He was, however, stopped by an armed military officer and was subsequently brutalized and forced out of the car, despite attempts by senior police officers to restore order.
