Reports from local media had earlier speculated that the prison officer were transferring some prisoners in anticipation of the visit.
Speaking to Accra-based StarrFM, chairman of the Prisons Council, Rev. Stephen Wengam, has however denied the claims. According to Rev. Wengam, the President's visit was a first and both inmates and wardens were equally expectant.
“It is a Christmas day for us. This is the first time a sitting President is visiting a prison and we are excited about it. We are happy that the president is coming around to see us and also see for himself the real state of affairs at the prisons,” Wengam said.
