Mahama critic arrested by National Security - activists

A prominent critic of President John Mahama has been picked up by the National Security, activists say.

The journalist, author of "59 Years to Nowhere" and an ardent supporter of Nana Akufo-Addo, rival of president John Mahama, is said to have been arrested at the Kotoka International Airport upon arrival from a trip.

Activists who alerted the world about the arrest of Fadi Dabboussi said his whereabout is unknown and that his home has be ransacked by operatives from the National Security.

Multiple media report say copies of his book, "59 Years to Nowhere" have been confiscated.

The arrest of Fadi Dabboussi comes after president John Mahama addressed the UN General Assembly on Wednesday where he touted the country's media freedom, alluding to the fact that 27 million Ghanaians use the media to coach him how he should govern.

Joy FM journalist Anny Osabutey took to Twitter say he "hope it's not true," after preceding it with the announcement of the arrest.

It is still unclear what led to his arrest but he is known for his sharp criticism of the president.
