“Avoid taking shelter at flammable locations” – Ghanaians warned

In a statement released on Sunday, Dr. Omane Boamah also urged motorists to be careful as the grounds get saturated by the rains.

The Minister of Communications, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has advised the public to avoid taking shelter at flammable locations as forecast shows that there would be rainfall amidst thunderstorm.

“The rains have yet again been persistent throughout the day, with forecasts showing that it may continue into the morning, along the coast. There are also reported thunderstorms expected in the middle and northern belts.

“As the rains pour, the ground is getting saturated, and there will be isolated floods in a number of locations. Some roads will also have flowing water, requiring that motorists be careful and alert.

“Residents are advised to avoid walking or driving through fast running water currents, and preferably remain on higher ground or park at safer locations.

“Please avoid taking shelter at flammable locations,” a portion of the statement said.

Ghana was on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 hit with flood and fire disasters which claimed over 200 lives and destroyed properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

The Goil filling station, close to the main Nkrumah Circle branch of the Ghana Commercial Bank, was completely razed down by fire in a havoc that lasted several hours. The fire, which started some few minutes past 10pm, spread to nearby structures where people were seeking refuge from the heavy downpour.
