The NPP Vice-Presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has cited the Ameri Power deal, the rehabilitation of the Kumasi Airport Runway as some of the recent examples of the many corrupt deals which have become the hallmark of the current Mahama – NDC administration.

According to him, “overpricing of contracts, corruption and the absence of value for money considerations is partly responsible for this.”

Dr. Bawumia raised issues about why the government failed to purchase the Power Plants from either General Electric or METKA, since it is clear even from the Ameri Agreement, that these two companies could have offered Ghana, a far cheaper alternative.

He said “The issue of the Ameri Power Deal is one episode of issues bordering on corruption"

Speaking at a public lecture at the National Theatre on Thursday, September 8, under the theme: ‘State of Ghana’s Economy – Foundation of Concrete or Straw?’, Dr Bawumia said "Overpricing of contracts through the use of sole sourcing is very typical of this John Mahama NDC government."

He noted that one of the reasons why Ghana's agricultural growth has declined is the low budgetary allocation to the sector under President John Mahama.

According to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, since 2009, the budgetary allocated to the Agriculture Ministry has been reducing.

“With twelve times less resources, the NPP increased GDP per capita by some four times more than the NDC... Ghana’s problem is not about resources. Our problem is the efficient and honest management of our resources,” he said.
