More than 200 homes and companies in Ashanti Regions have been cut off power supply because they were indebted to ECG. The outfit were allegedly owing the company a total amount of GHC 92M.

The exercise was embarked on to serve as a deterrent to those owing ECG and as a means of revenue mobilization.

Mr. Eramus Kyere Baidoo, Regional Public Relations Manager of Electricity Company of Ghana explained ECG served the debtors with notice but it proved futile.

However, the company has given some educational and health institutions owing ample time to pay as their services are very crucial to the region and nation as a whole.

He urged consumers to pay bills monthly to avoid any future disconnections to avoid the discomfort associated with disconnections and waste of company’s resources.

Mr. Baidoo explained that the ECG has suspended its regular maintenance since they cannot afford to pay their power suppliers which is affecting their work in diverse ways.
