The Chatham House Prize is awarded to the person, persons or organization deemed to have made the most significant contribution to the improvement of international relations in the previous year.

Charlotte Osei is nominated for ensuring a peaceful and transparent electoral process in Ghana in December 2016.

The 2012 election outcome was challenged in the courts due to allegations of irregularities. The heightened tensions resulting from this and the competitiveness of the 2016 elections.

Recognizing these issues, Ms Osei undertook reforms to the Electoral Commission in an effort to guarantee the credibility of the 2016 elections and reduce the risk of challenges to the outcome and election-related violence.

Under her administration, the December 2016 election ultimately enabled a smooth transition of power.

Others nominated for the awards are Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary-General of NATO.

The winner will be announced later this year, and an award ceremony will take place in the autumn.
