Authorities at the University of Ghana have indicated that they have not granted permission to the organizers of the May 16 #dumsormuststop vigil to use its stadium.

The Greater Accra Regional Police command had approved of the requested date and the routes for the vigil which is being led by Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson, with support from other celebrities. Participants were expected to gather at the University of Ghana football field on May 16 and proceed peacefully to the Green Park opposite the Villagio at the Tettey Quashie Interchange to show their frustration over the recent power cuts.

However, According to the authorities of the university, they are “not aware of, neither has it granted nor is in the process of granting permission to any person or group of persons seeking to organize or hold any such procession or vigil on/or in connection with any such activity.” This was contained in a statement released and signed by Mercy Haizel-Ashia, registrar of the institution.
