Frequent power outages pushes Kaneshie traders out of business

About 11 traders are said to have had their shops locked up for more than two months by the Accra Markets Company Limited, managers of the Kaneshie Market because they are unable to pay their rent.

Some traders at the Kaneshie market in Accra have been hit hard by the impact of the erratic power supply which is popularly known as “dumsor” has forced them out of business.About 11 traders are said to have had their shops locked up for more than two months by the Accra Markets Company Limited, managers of the Kaneshie Market because they are unable to pay their rent.The traders told ATINKA NEWS the outages have made it impossible to do regular business while at the same time they have to look for loans to pay their rent.The traders indicated that the increased power outages have resulted in low sales and this has contributed to their inability to get money to pay such rent bills.Meanwhile, authorities of the market have refused to comment as Managing Director of Accra Markets Company Limited Edmund Duffuor Addae says it is an internal issue.
