Medical philanthropist dies
He died on Sunday at the Tamale Teaching Hospital at age 65. Dr Abdulai left behind a wife and three children.

Dr David Abdulai, described often as “the mad doctor”, had over the years provided healthcare to the mentally ill in his clinic and on the streets for free.
He ran two clinics in the Northern region and provided treatment not only to persons with mental illness but also HIV/AIDS, Hernias, and other physical disabilities.
After treatment, many found happiness in staying at the facility rather than going back home or to the streets.

In May, Dr Abdulai was diagnosed with stage-4 thyroid cancer which had reportedly become aggressive.
Reports indicated that he was in dire need of radiation therapy, which is not offered in Tamale in the Northern region where he lives.
President John Mahama subsequently decided to foot the medical bills of Dr. David Abdulai.
On Wednesday, August 10, 2016, he was airlifted to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra for treatment.

Dr Abdulai had been running the Shekhina clinic at Gurugu since 1989 with another health centre at Wamale, both in the Northern Region.
