The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has cut power to the National Theatre due to its inability to settle its debt.
Reports suggest that ECG had issued several warning letters before cutting the power.

According to management, they received a letter from government last year that the facility was now responsible for paying its utility bills and other expenses but they could not factor it in since the rental rate had already been fixed.

“The main thing is we’ve gone back to ECG to try and see if they can spread the past due over a longer period of time. They offered six (6) months and we believe that we can do eight (8) months,” Acting Executive Director of the National Theatre, Army Appiah Frimpong told Joy News.
The facility has been off since August 11, 2015.
The National Theatre has been relying on its 20-year generator set to keep the place running.
Few weeks ago, the Koforidua Polytechnic was plunged into darkness after the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), cut them off the national power grid.
The Polytechnic owes ECG electricity bills in excess of GHS 790,000.
ECG has been struggling with the collection of bills from institutions for a long time and has on several occasions threatened to sue some of them.
