'Climate change is a threat to security' - Kofi Annan

Kofi Annan says the world must make progress on addressing climate change before the process becomes irreversible.

The former secretary-general of the United Nations, Kofi Annan has indicated that climate change poses a threat to security and health.

In a statement by Kofi Annan, Chair of the Africa Progress Panel and Kofi Annan Foundation, in support of the encyclical on climate change by His Holiness Pope Francis said, "Such conditions could displace tens of millions of people, dwarfing current movements and fueling further conflicts."

"As Pope Francis reaffirms, ‪#‎ClimateChange‬ is an all-encompassing threat: it is a threat to our security, our health, and our sources of fresh water and food. Such conditions could displace tens of millions of people, dwarfing current movements and fueling further conflicts.

I applaud the Pope for his strong moral and ethical leadership. We need more of such inspired leadership. Will we see it at the climate summit in Paris"?
