Police constable killed, AK 47 stolen

A 29-year old constable, Atibiya Ayine, was on Monday dawn found dead in a robbery  incident on the Spintex road.

The police constable is said to have been on guard duties at the premises of Poly Tank Ghana Limited at dawn, with other private security personnel also on duty when they were attacked by unknown assailants.

Speaking to Pulse.com.gh, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, ASP Effia Tenge said her outfit had a distress call around 1.30 Monday dawn about a robbery incident.

She said when the police arrived at the scene, they found that the police officer has been killed by the suspected robbers, who also made away with the constable’s AK 47 rifle.

“There is one private security officer who was also stabbed with multiple machete wounds on his body but he is actually responding to treatment at the Police hospital,” ASP Tenge added.

She further called on members of the public to volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.

ASP Tenge said that “once the person [suspected robbers] has been able to possess an arm, that is a serious thing to talk about and a threat to all of us in the community.”
