A labourer who was put before an Accra Circuit Court for attempting to commit crime has denied attacking a man in his bid to rob him of his mobile phone.

Abu Issah claims he only wanted information from the complainant, Johnson Ahorsey, on the time the All-night service would start at the Lighthouse Chapel at Sampa Valley, near Weija.

Issah was however remanded into Police custody to reappear on October 9.

Prosecution said the complainant, Mr Ahorsey, is an Information Technology consultant and a resident of Teshie Nungua, and that on September 19, this year, he went for an all-night service at the Sampa Valley branch of the Lighthouse Chapel International.

On reaching the church premises, prosecuting Chief Inspector Edward Afful said complainant detected that the gate to the church premises was locked.

Prosecution said the complainant then decided to call a church member inside the premises to find out why the gate was locked.

Issah, who was in the company of two others attacked Mr Ahorsey with a knife.

Inspector Afful said Issah in his bid to rob the complainant of his mobile phone, pulled out a knife and attempted to stab the complainant.

He said Mr Ahorsey shouted for help and some church members came to his rescue and apprehended Issah.

When Issah was asked why he attacked the complainant, he replied that he only wanted to know from the complainant when the all-night service would begin and did not attempt to rob him.
