The regional Police Commander COP Kofi Boakye was addressing journalists in Kumasi. He said reports of robbery in taxis are increasing within the metropolis hence the caution.
COP Boakye said the ‘pick and rob’ style of stealing reduced “after we arrested a group of people at Barikese but recently within that past three weeks, it has resurfaced again.”
“What they do is that they pick you with a man and woman in the car and when they get to especially, the Melcom and Golden Tulip area, they rob you, beat you and throw you away.”
He advised that passengers pick taxis from only recognised taxi stations “and if you take a taxi and it’s not from a station and there are people in it don’t pick it if the taxi driver insists he wants to pick other people on the way don’t pick."
He called on all the pay a little more security cautious by taking note of the taxi numbers of the cabs they pick.
