20-year-old man killed over food

Yakubu Iddi, 20, according to the District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Paa Yeboah, died at the Gushegu Hospital after he was stabbed multiple times in the lower abdomen by one Ibrahim after hot verbal exchanges at a rice eatery.

Mr Paa Yeboah, told the  media the incident occurred last Friday.

He said both the deceased and the suspect, Zibilla Ibrahim, 20, who is a student of the Gushegu Senior High School, went to buy food at a joint near the Gushegu market.

According to him, an argument over who should be served first degenerated into a quarrel between the two.

"The two went their separate ways after they had been served," he noted.

The deceased was left writhing in pain until he managed his way to the suspect house before he was conveyed in a tricycle to the hospital where doctors said he died of excessive bleeding.

The police commander said the suspect has admitted the crime, but currently receiving treatment for knee injury during the deadly struggle.

The commander said the deceased later went to the house of the suspect and invited him for a fight.

"He went to the suspect's house and asked him to come out and fight him if he is a man.

"Unknown to the deceased, however, the suspect was armed with a knife," ASP Yeboah said.

He stated that during the fight, the suspect stabbed the deceased on the thigh, causing the deceased to bleed profusely.

"Sensing danger, the suspect took to his heels," the commander said.

He said Ibrahim will be transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital and will be arraigned before court immediately he is fully recovered.
