The Acting Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Freddie Blay has charged President Mahama to as a matter of urgency arrest and prosecute officials implicated in the DVLA scandal.

EOCO has threatened to charge Justice Amegashie with causing financial loss to the state after his alleged negligence in the controversial signing of the DVLA contract with Foto-X.

The former Chief Executive of the DVLA, Justice Amegashie, has begged Ghanaians for forgiveness after failing to explain a mysterious jump in contract sum from $3.6million to $9.9million.

But, addressing a press conference, the Acting Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay said "the president must allow those who are implicated in the DVLA scandal be arrested and prosecuted. Let the president be seen as doing something about corruption before his term expires next year."

He added "Ghana deserves better. Our coffers must be protected."

The DVLA contract with Foto-X was renewed in 2014 soon after Justice Amegashie took office.

Parliament's Transport Committee is asking for further documents to unravel the mystery surrounding the disparities in the contract sum.

It was expected that Foto-X would not have to continue with a ‘Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) contract to printing hard card drivers’ licences. The DVLA was supposed to do so in 2012 after the contract, first signed in 2006, expired.

But Justice Amegashie said Foto-X continued with the printing because there was no one to take over from Foto-X.

He said there was also intense pressure on DVLA to issue licences after a huge backlog of more than 250,000.
