Customs officials dismissed for alleged corruption

The alleged corrupt officers, include four females and eleven males.

Their interdiction follows their purported connivance with certain companies to evade duties and taxes.

Nine of the interdicted officers operate under the Tema Sector Command.

One of the alleged corrupt acts by the officers is said to have caused GRA GH¢17,151, 593.72 in liabilities.

The process leading to the actions taken on the officers was painstaking in line with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s war against pilfering at the port.

According to the Daily Guide newspaper, Acting Commissioner, Support Service Division, Fred Charles Anson had made it clear that the Service will not compromise on corruption and indiscipline among the officers corps.

The GRA has also set up a committee of inquiry in accordance with its conditions of service to carry out full but speedy investigations and bring up findings and recommendations for disciplinary action to be taken.

Affected officers have been asked to hand over all properties belonging to the Authority to their various sector commanders before leaving office.
