Blakk Rasta, Ken Kuranchie to face Parliament today

Controversial radio presenter and reggae musician, Blakk Rasta will today appear before the Privileges Committee of Parliament for some comments he made that suggested 80% of Ghanaian parliamentarians smoke “Wee”.

Publications on a number of websites quoted the host of Hitz FM’s show to have said that, “There are about 80% of parliamentarians who smoke weed so why do people think those who smoke marijuana go mad.”

In a letter signed by Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Principal Assistant Clerk, Blakk Rasta, real name Abubakar Ahmed is expected to appear as a witness before the committee today, Thursday, June 25 at 1pm to assist in investigation of contemptuous remarks allegedly made on his show.

Editor of the , Ken Kuranchie been invited as well. The newspaper is said to have published in its June 17 edition the alleged defamatory comments made by Blakk Rasta.

But Mr. Kuranchie told Citi FM on Wednesday that publishing the story in his newspaper does not suggest that his outfit supports the said claim.

“If our honourable members read the Daily Searchlight carefully, they would have seen certain things in the paper that showed clearly that we are not totally in tune with Mr Blakk Rasta and the pronouncement that he made,” he said.

Meanwhile, Blakk Rasta who also called for the legalization of marijuana has indicated that about 56 lawyers are ready to explore the debate on the use of the substance. He has indicated his readiness to meet the Privileges Committee of Parliament.

“About 56 lawyers have called and written to me, to be part of this. Lawyer Paako, Lawyer Nimako- All of these people have been waiting for the opportunity to improve our economy.

“In the 21 century when God has blessed us this way, we are over-relying on gold and cocoa. Marijuana is a silence gold hiding that we need to legalise. What are we waiting for?

“I will go there in my best attire and talk about this. If I have the opportunity I will talk about other things. Let’s legalize it for industrial use. It is one of the best oil that doesn’t deplete the ozone layer,” he said on Kasapa FM’s Anopa Kasapa last Friday.
