K'dua Zongo youth clash with military over erection of mast

The youth have indicated that the land for the project has been earmarked for the construction of a school in the Zongo community

Some irate youth at Koforidua Zongo, in the Eastern Region on Tuesday clashed with some military over the mounting of a new security communication mast in the community.

The youth have indicated that the land for the project has been earmarked for the construction of a school in the Zongo community.

According to them, the land is not appropriate for mounting a mast because it is close to a clinic “The land was earmarked for a school not a mast. We have a clinic here and you want to build a mast here? We don’t want it here,” one youth said.

The residents on Tuesday morning around 7 am, tried to stop the military men from mounting the mast, but the military men went ahead.

“The police are here to guard the project as it goes and they say some chiefs in this community have told them to arrest us. We too we won’t go. We are ready to face them,” another angry youth told Accra-based Joy FM.

Meanwhile, the youth have accused some chiefs and elders of the community of colluding with the powers that be to mount the mast.

They have decided to resort to the courts to place an injunction on the project.
