Court Adjourns Alhaji Dawood's Case To Dec 23

The Accra Circuit Court will set to rule on the renewal of the a bail application for six persons including one Alhaji Dawood, linked to the Nayele cocaine saga tomorrow, Tuesday December 23, 2014.

Lawyers made an attempt on Monday to secure bail for the six persons who are being charged with aiding of crime, but the judge has adjourned ruling on the application to tomorrow, Joy News Kwakye Afreh Nuamah reported. The prosecutors failed to appear in court even though the time set for the hearing at the previous sitting was at 8:30 am today.

Lawyer for Alhaji Dawood, Addo Attuah wanted the judge to grant his client bail to enable him spend time with his family during the Christmas period, but the judge, Francis Obiri insisted the case be heard tomorrow. Family members of the accused who were in court were disappointed at the ruling but said they were hopeful that things will go in their favour tomorrow.

The accused persons, Alhaji Dawood, a businessman, Nana Akua Amponsah and Sadalia Sandra Nuhu and three other officials of the Kotoka International Airport, are facing charges in Ghana for the role they played in allegedly aiding Nayele Amtefeh to transport 12kg of cocaine into the United Kingdom.Alhaji Dawood has been accused of facilitating Nayele’s access through the VVIP lounge at the KIA into the British Airways flight.

The two other ladies have been accused of travelling with Nayele but abandoned their luggage and managed to abscond after she was arrested at the Heathrow Airport. Meanwhile, Nayele has pleaded guilty to the charges proffered against her by a UK court.

She is expected to reappear before the court on January 5, 2015 in the United Kingdom.
