Nima Police arrest suspected robbers at Kwame Nkrumah Circle

The Nima Police Commander says his command yesterday (Tuesday) have arrested twenty-six (26) persons who are suspected "to be criminal themselves or contributed to making criminal activities continue" in and around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

The Divisional Commander ACP Nuhu Django who was addressing journalists today said the swoop was organised after they received report that " Nkrumah circle had become so dangerous that people could not walk freely there".

He cited instances where people have had their bags and mobile phones snatched at circle. He also indicated that the report they got also mentioned that the masterminds and planning of robberies within the capital were mostly from Circle.

Finally "the final product taken from victims of the robbery activities were disposed of there" he added.

ACP Nuhu Django explained that armed with these reports they decided to embark on the "operation". The exercise which took about two and half hours was started around 1pm. "We targeted the total fuel station down towards the New Town traffic light". The operation was done with about 40 police officers . The Police retrieved 247 assorted mobile phones.

ACP Django said "we have these phones in our possession we appeal to anybody who have been robbed before to contact us and we would find out if their phones were part of it".

He further advised the general public to be weary of places where they purchase phones.

He said "the public should not purchase phones in the open air if you want a phone get to a recognized phone shop buy it and get a receipt to cover it".
