Sam George warns Ibrahim Mahama: Your friends are traitors

He claimed that such persons do not have his best interest at heart and are only seeking to portray him as an opportunist who is taking advantage of his brother position to amass wealth.

Presidential Staffer, Sam George has advised the brother of President John Mahama to be extra cautious of persons within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) who claim to be his friends.

“Maybe it is time Ibrahim Mahama starts learning certain lessons from this that the people he calls his friends are the very same people who turn around and instigate some of these things against him and so he must begin to watch where he shows his acts of benevolence.”

He added that “the very same people who come and dine around his dining table and smile with him and call him brother and call him my friend, they are the very same people who turn around and make all of these baseless and needless allegations.”

His advice comes on the back of a press conference organized by the Minority Members of Parliament (MPs) last Thursday demanding payment from Ibrahim Mahama after he used state equipment to dredge the Odaw River near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

The Minority MPs stated that the equipment were procured for onward distribution to Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to help improve sanitation in the country and not for private use.

According to them, the use of the equipment by Engineers and Planners “amounts to a diversion of state property to an individual because of his links to the top echelons of government.”

They thus demanded that Engineers and Planners “should be made to pay for the full cost of the machinery and equipment improperly released to it and in its possession.”

Speaking on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji on Saturday, Sam George described Ibrahim Mahama as a person who contributes his resources and expertise to national development at no cost.

Listing some of acts of philanthropy the President’s brother has engaged in, Sam George said: “When the Melcom building collapsed…he himself and another Italian company ARG, were the only two companies that brought their cranes to lift up those slabs to save the lives of those who were trapped under.

“When Mr. Prosper Adabla’s building collapsed at Cantonments, Ibrahim Mahama personally drove the equipment that came to lift the slabs. He personally handled it.”

The Presidential Staffer was of the view that the NPP is only picking on Ibrahim Mahama because “he is called Ibrahim and his brother Mahama is President.”

“This is the country we live in so he should learn that at times, it pay to keep your friends closer than your enemies.”

On his part, the Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr also remarked that if he were Ibrahim Mahama, “I will be very, very careful about getting involved in such things but that also raises another problem because if you don’t take time, the same people are going to turn round and say because of small insults you want people of Nima to die and so on and it becomes a very difficult situation for the young man.”
