Pope Francis asks members to seek forgiveness from homosexuals

The Pontiff in a statement has asked members of the catholic faith across the world to apologise to LGBT groups for discriminating against them.

"I repeat what the Catechism of the Catholic Church says: that they must not be discriminated against, that they must be respected and accompanied pastorally," Francis said.

"The Church must ask forgiveness for not behaving many times -- when I say the Church, I mean Christians! The Church is holy, we are sinners!"

His comments have been described as “ground breaking” by certain priests and gay rights groups in the Catholic Church. Pope Francis is the only pope in the church’s history to have been this accommodating to the group who are frowned upon in the religion.

The answer came off the back from a question a German cardinal posed to him saying that the Catholic Church should apologize for being "very negative" about gays. Other questions also asked include whether Christians bear some of the blame for hatred toward the LGBT community, just like it was shown during the recent Orlando massacre at a gay night club that killed 49 people on 12 June.

He went on to add that "I believe that the church not only should apologize to the person who is gay whom it has offended," he added, "but has to apologize to the poor, to exploited women, to children exploited for labor; it has to ask forgiveness for having blessed many weapons."

Pope Francis, the head of more than one million Catholics has constantly made the news for comments he has made in favor of homosexuals. In 2013, he refused to condemn the group on a similar trip while aboard the papal plane rather he asked members to be more compassionate and tolerant to them.

The Pope spoke about Britain’s exist from the European Union and calling the killing of more than 1 million Armenians as “genocide”.
