The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is verifying the academic qualifications of 2,465 of its workers.
The Director-General of SSNIT Dr John Ofori-Tenkorang said they issued a directive in this regard in August 2017 in the Daily Graphic.
He told Accra based Citi FM that “it is a policy of SSNIT for all certificates to be verified, but, somehow, Afaglo slipped through. We, therefore, need to make sure similar incidents do not occur in the future.”

Dr Ofori-Tenkorang said he expects his credentials to be screened as well since he is an employee of the Trust.
“I expect the Human Resource of the department of the trust to do it, I am also an employee of SSNIT and I expect my certificates to be vetted… We are not out there to victimise anyone; we are only seeking to cleanse the image of the trust to regain absolute confidence.”
He said this exercise is to help cleanse the Trust of employees with possible fake qualifications.

Even though Dr Ofori-Tenkorang said this is a process undertaken at SSNIT often, this particular one comes on the back of the Trust sacking its General Manager in charge of Management Information Systems (MIS).
Caleb Afaglo was dismissed from SSNIT after it was revealed that he secured a job at the Trust with fake degrees.
Afaglo’s fake degrees was found out when the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) started investigating 5 people for their respective roles played in the acquisition of the OBS software.
The Board Chairman of SSNIT, Kwame Addo Kufuor said about 15 people have already appeared before EOCO as witnesses.
The software was to help in networking all branches of SSNIT across the country to enable them to receive real-time data directly from the headquarters in Accra and enhance efficiency.
