Ghanaian and others on death row in Indonesia executed by firing squad

Among those executed was Martin Anderson of Ghana whose appeals were rejected at hearings on Tuesday, said court panelist Suhadi, who uses a single name.

 

The 8 condemned prisoners on death row in Indonesia have been executed by firing squad.

BBC reports that the executions took place in Besi prison on the island of Nusakambangan early on Wednesday morning local time (Tuesday evening Nigerian time).

Among those executed was Martin Anderson of Ghana whose appeals were rejected at hearings on Tuesday, said court panelist Suhadi, who uses a single name.

Anderson failed to present new evidence to support his appeal, Suhadi said Wednesday.

Various governments and international bodies had appealed for their release, however President Joko Widodo denied celemncy.

A Filipino woman also due to be executed was reportedly spared at the last minute.
