EC Begs For GH¢ 90 Million

The Electoral Commission is requesting an additional Gh¢ 90 million to run the District Assembly elections.

Government released a total of Gh¢ 327 million to the electoral body to run the polls, but the whopping sum has gone down the drain after the Supreme Court cancelled the local elections.

It has emerged that the Electoral Commission expended a whopping Ghc327 million in the lead-up to the District level elections that was annulled by a Supreme Court ruling at the last hour.

This was revealed by the Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur on Tuesday March 10, when he gave the keynote address  to open the 4th Regional Minister's Conference underway at Elmina in the Central Region.

The EC Boss Dr Afari Gyan has revealed to Parliament that that it needs ¢90 million to organise fresh elections.

He made these revelations during a closed door meeting with Members of Parliament on Tuesday.
