"It is like a funeral in our house"- brother of Ghanaian ISIS recruit speaks

"On his face book timeline I kept seeing Islamic posts but we were all thinking it is nothing."

Family of new Islamic State recruit Nazir Nortei Alema has stated it has been thrown into a state of mourning after their relative joined ISIS.

"We are confused; it is like a funeral home in our house" Kaberi Alema brother to Nazir Nortei Alema told Tv3 network.

The 25 year old graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology announced to his family through a whatsApp message that he has joined the terror group IS.

According to the Daily Guide Newspaper, Nazir is one of the 10 suspected Muslim youth to have joined the group from Ghana. It has become a global concern the number of people being recruited around the world to join the group.

What is ISIS

The group burst into the scene in 2014 when they seized large territories in Syria and Iraq. It has become very notorious for abductions and beheadings. In June 2014 the group declared a caliphate demanding that all Muslims around the world swear allegiance to its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Nazir's radicalization

Nazir had told his family he was undertaking some research at Prestea in the Western region. Upon incessant check-ups from his family, he finally confessed that had joined the terror group.

"He sent a message to me to be given to our parents that he is on his way to join ISIS" Kaberi said

Kaberi described his brother as a very calm and reserved person.

He said a few weeks back he noticed a change on his brother's facebook page displaying the IS flag.

"I think he has been brainwashed. On his face book timeline I kept seeing Islamic posts but we were all thinking it is nothing. I didn't know he had this ISIS flag and all, pictures of him dressed like Arab but we didn't know it was an ISIS flag. At that moment I was ignorant so he left. After my research and I found that that was an ISIS flag he used on his facebook and WhatApp picture."

National security

The issue has become a national security concern which is being investigated.

"We spoke to the deputy national security coordinator in the person of Alhaji Osman, so they are aware of what is going on. One of Nazir's friends who also went together with Nazir to join the ISIS, I think he's been reported and they have information on him. They said they will investigate and get back at us."
