At least seven people have sustained gunshot wounds after two Muslim factions clashed in Sekondi Zongo in Takoradi in the Western region.

One faction led by the Regional Chief Imam Sheikh Alhassan attacked their opponents, who were also led by one Sheikh Mukadasu Thursday evening, Takoradi-based Empire FM reports.

The injured have since been rushed to the Essikado General Hospital and are receiving treatment.

Details of what really led to the clashes are still not clear, but reports say the group led by Sheikh Mukadasu have vowed to retaliate unless the Regional Chief Imam steps down.

No arrest has been made, the Western Regional Police PRO Olivia Ewurabena Adiku told Accra-based Starr FM.

Investigations have, however, been launched into the incident.
