Kwesi Pratt punches WAEC officials over exam leakage

Editor-in-Chief of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt says officials at the West African Examination Council (WAEC) should be held responsible for the mass leakage of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) papers nationwide.Speaking on Peace FM’s , Mr. Pratt said he will not blame any person than the WAEC authorities who were supposed to secure the examination papers and prevent it from leaking.

“The principal responsibility is the West African Examination Council. The principal responsibility lies there. It is their duty to secure their work to prevent any malfeasance…WAEC responsibility is that they didn’t set up mechanisms to prevent anybody from WAEC from doing this.”The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) on Wednesday announced the cancellation of five papers in the ongoing BECE on the basis that they have been compromised.They are Papers 2 of English Language, Religious and Moral Education, Integrated Science Mathematics and Social Studies.

The leaked papers have been scheduled to be re-administered on June 29 and 30, 2015, according to a statement by the WAEC.However, Mr. Pratt has said the cancellation and postponement of the papers will mount pressure on the candidates and their parents.
