The Electoral Commission has revealed that the two officials who were accused of verifying the electoral details of NPP’s running mate in his home were guilty as accused.

This was contained in a press statement released by the Commission after a three-member committee was set up to investigate allegations levelled against Dr Mahamadu Bawumia.

Dr Bawumia has been accused by the governing NDC of enticing two workers of the EC with a total sum of GHC10,000 to verify his voter registration status in the comfort of his home.

The statement confirmed that Dr Bawumia was verified in his home. “Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was facilitated by both officers to check his name in the voters’ register and got verified outside the exhibition centre. The Committee was of the considered opinion that the conduct of the Officers was a violation of the guidelines issued for the exercise and contrary to the Commission’s policies.”

“The Committee concluded that allowing a registered voter to go through the exhibition process outside the designated centre was an irregularity and a breach of the rules.”

The EC finally advised leaders of political parties “to familiarise themselves with the electoral laws and regulations to enable them to insist on the right things being done at all times.”
