Blakk Rasta before the Privileges Committee of Parliament

Outspoken radio presenter, Blakk Rasta is advocating for Ghana’s constitution to be written in the Twi language.

The host of Hitz FM’s show who was summoned before the Privileges Committee of Parliament for comments he made which suggested that 80% of Ghanaian parliamentarians smoke “wee” said it will be of great help if the laws are written in Twi.

“Twi is the most spoken Ghanaian language In Ghana and if the laws are written in Twi, it will help us. Even with all my education, I sometimes find it difficult to read the lawyer's English,” he said when he was asked whether it was true that he has been suggesting that laws be written in Twi.

Blakk Rasta is reported to have asked for the constitution to be translated into Twi because according to him, Parliamentarians speak bad English.

“My God I check on this grammar and it’s terrible. And I really want to know if our laws can be written in Twi so we will understand that better, rather than this English that we are terrorising ourselves with.”

The controversial presenter, however, apologised for alleging that about 80% of parliamentarians in Ghana smoke marijuana. He described his comment as “an unfortunate remark”.
