Weija dam to be reopened after torrential rains for spillway

Residents of Gbawe, McCarthy Hill and Tsokome and it's environs could be forced to evacuate from their homes if the dam,which is the major water supply point in Accra decides to spill water.

The Weija Dam spillways could be opened after two days of heavy rain according to officials of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).

Pulse.com.gh understands the minister in charge of Water Resources,Works and Housing, Dr. Kweku Agyeman Manu will meet with officials of the GWCL on Thursday to check the height of the dam and decide if there is need to open the spillways which could lead to further flooding of certain areas.

Residents of Gbawe, McCarthy Hill and Tsokome and it's environs could be forced to evacuate from their homes if the dam,which is the major water supply point in Accra decides to spill water. Property valued at millions of cedis has been destroyed after an 11 hour rainfall and various parts of Accra have been rendered almost inaccessible.
