Mr. Mahama who doubles as the Chairman of ECOWAS is among other things, expected to discuss the upcoming elections of Nigeria with his colleague African leaders.

This year’s summit is under the theme: "Women's Empowerment Year and Africa Development for the concretization of Agenda 2063".

Deliberations will mainly focus on progress made in empowering African women, the key role the NEPAD Agency is playing in Agenda 2063, outcomes of the Dakar Financing Summit, and decisions made at the Malabo Summit in June 2014, amongst Africa’s most pressing issues.

Sources say the deadly Ebola virus that killed thousands of Africans and ways to stop it will also be discussed.
