Who Wins “Best Male Vocal Performance Of The Year”?

Who wins the “Best Male Vocal Performance of the Year” award at this year's Vodafone Ghana Music Awards?

Welcome to Pulse Music’s third poll on the 16th edition of Vodafone Ghana Awards. Let’s take a look at our next category i.e “Best Male Vocal Performance of the Year." And the nominees are Afriyie (Wutah), Koda, Daddy Lumba and Joe Mettle.

This year’s category wasn’t that tight as compared to the previous years especially with the exception of missing Hip-life artiste, Castro. The prolific singer who went missing since April 2014 after a water-skiing accident released more than three hit songs including “Seihor” which features D-Black. Under the year in review, he was featured on several hit songs including Sarkodie’s “Adonai” remix, D-Black’s “Personal Person,” Akoo Nana’s “Mi Yadaw,” etc which could have given him a nod in that particular category but unfortunately he was omitted from the list.

Highlife singer, Afriyie of the defunct Wutah group factually had a bad year. The song “I Do” which got him nominated didn’t make any improvement under the year in review but he still has a good voice.

Gospel singer, Koda had all the hype for his ‘public domain’ song “Nkwa Abodoo” which features Naci. The song which translates as ‘bread of life’ is nothing new in the various churches and that’s why Pulse Music classifies it as a ‘public domain’ song but all the same, he has a great voice. His live band performance to the song is exceptional.

Daddy Lumba’s “Ne3 Woho Beto Wo” was indeed the record of the year and really deserves the nomination in this category. It is the song that caused political commotion when President John Mahama and Otumfo Osei Tutu II boogied to it in Kumasi (the stronghold of the opposition party N.P.P) and apparently bashing it on a trailer leading their convoy. That’s one major reason why it was enlisted in Pulse Music top 10 songs of the year 2014. We are not exaggerating or supporting any artiste but facts always remain facts.

Gospel singer, Joe Mettle has somewhat a good year with his single “Turning Around.” Let’s see what he’s got for this year.

But notwithstanding, all the artistes enlisted in the “Best Male Vocal Performance of the Year” category have contributed immensely towards the development of Ghana Music under the year in review. According to you, which of the male vocalists really deserves the “Male Vocal Performance of the Year” plaque?
