Welcome to Pulse Music’s second poll on the 16th edition of Vodafone Ghana Awards. After reviewing the first category “Producer Of The Year,” let’s look at the second one “Best Female Vocal Performance.”

“Best Female Vocal Performance” has 6 energetic Ghanaian femalevocalists nominated for the prestigious plaque. They include Pulse Ghana Star Contributor, Efya, curvaceous Becca, African lioness Wiyaala, sexy Raquel, inspirational singer Jael Wiafe and self acclaimed Dancehall Queen MzVee. Though, with the exception of Extra Large Entertainment’s Kaakie, the category seems okay with the 6 nominees.

Efya, the current defending champion with 4 undefeated awards will compete with 5 other nominees. She got nominated with popular highlife single “One Of Your Own” which features genius male vocalist Bisa Kdei.

Top Five Favourite Songs By Singer

Becca, one of Ghana’s most celebrated singers who shot to fame in 2016 when she quit the Mentor II show shortly after being selected to represent the Ashanti Region together with Rose (Tico) and Sandy (Obolo) following her strong objections to an allegation that the finalists, including her, had been secretly tested and cleared of HIV/AIDS without any counseling or prior notification. In 2014, she released an international collaboration with SA’s Uhuru titled “Move” and “Tell Me” featuring rapper Sarkodie in April and October respectively. She got nominated with “Tell Me.”

Wiyaala is another topic to talk about throughout the year under review. After breaking away from Vodafone Icons winning group, Black N Peach, she has shown her ability to withstand obstacles that sometimes deprive us from achieving our success. She was one of the few Ghanaian artistes to release an album under the year of review. Her album titled after her name “Wiyaala” is power packed with authentic African sounds. Her album gave her two 23.9-carat gold-plated awards –"The Most Promising Artiste in Africa" and "The Revelation of the African Continent" at All Africa Music Awards, 2014. She was nominated in the “Best Female Vocal Performance Of The Year” category with her hit single “Tinambaynyi.”

Raquel did quite well under the year of review with some stage performances and her “Cupid Party” held at 233 Jazz & Bar. She was nominated with “I won’t Cry” – an R&B/Pop single which had massive airplay especially its video.

Jael Wiafe, an inspirational singer who made the year under review a memorable one with her hit single “Keep On Believing.” The visuals for the song had a massive airplay.

Lynx Entertainment’s MzVee was revealed under the year of review through her debut album “Re-vee-lation.” More than 5 songs off her album were hits. She was nominated with “My Everything” featuring self-acclaimed Dancehall King, Shatta Wale.
