The veteran singer's publicist confirmed King died on April 30 at his home in New Jersey after suffering from a heart disease.
King made his career as an American soul and R&B singer thanks to his 1961 Top 10 hit “Stand By Me,” which continues to remain a staple today after being covered by several other artists, including John Lennon.
The song landed on the Billboard charts nine different times and is certainly a huge legacy to leave behind.

The late music icon began his singing career in doo woo group the Five Crowns (renamed as the Drifters) in 1958, and with the group, released a string of hits. However, he left in May 1960 to pursue a solo career.
In 2012, Ben was still receiving recognition for 'Stand By Me.' He got the Songwriters Hall Of Fame's 'Towering Song Award' and 'Towering Performance Award'.
