Highlife Legend Talks About How He Started His Music Career

Nana Ampadu has shared the story of how he started his music career and how he was made head of state for two hours by General Kutu Acheampong.

Highlife great Nana Kwame Ampadu shared the journey of his legendary highlife story by serenading fans at the “Three Nights with Highlife Greats” at Alisa Hotel on Monday, March 23.Nana Kwame Ampadu kick-started the three nights on Monday night. Ben Brako and Paapa Yankson will take their turns on Tuesday and Wednesday.Nana Ampadu told the story of how he started his music career and how he was made head of state for two hours by General Kutu Acheampong.“The late Chairman Acheampong was the head of state. We became comrades, you can call it friends. So one day I visited him at the Burma Camp. When I went, he was sitting with his subjects. They were discussing something, I don’t remember. The moment I entered the hall, Chairman Acheampong came and embraced me and welcomed me. He left the seat of the chairman if I can say president, and for two hours treated me like the head of state.”After sharing his beautiful life story, he treated patrons to some of the hit songs from his huge collection of music.Ben Brako takes his turn on Tuesday night and Paapa Yankson follows on Wednesday night, at Alisa Hotel, Ridge – Accra.The MOGO Festival will be climaxed with the MOGO Awards on Saturday March 28 at the Accra International Conference Center.
