Highlife artiste, Gyedu Blay Ambolley has threatened to seek an injunction to restrict Bice Osei Kuffour, known in showbiz as Obour from contesting in the upcoming Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) elections.

According to Ambolley who was speaking to Abrantepa on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, Brunch2Lunch, incumbent president of the union, Obour has not properly accounted for the GH¢ 2 million allocated by government for the creative arts sector.

On November 16, 2011, Minister of Finance, Dr Kwabena Duffuor in his presentation of the 2012 budget announced that government had set aside GH¢ 2 million to MUSIGA for the development of the creative arts industry.

Obour who has been hit with series of allegations of misappropriation since the amount was allocated has said that the money was, among other things, used to conduct research into the music industry.

He explained that over GHC 500, 000 was used in organizing the Ghana Music Week while the remaining was used for capacity building for members of MUSIGA and MUSIGA Peace Campaign which was organized prior to the 2012 general elections.

Although he has stated that an audited report had been made available to the Ministry of Finance and could also be accessed at the MUSIGA offices, Ambolley who is not satisfied with the response says he intends seeking an injunction to bar Obour from contesting in the upcoming elections of the union.

“Obour has faulted in so many ways. He has not rendered any accounts to the musicians as regards the GH¢ 2 million. When quizzed, he says he has rendered accounts to the ministry of finance. What has the ministry got to do with the musician’s union? If he doesn’t account for that money, I’m not sure he can pick a form because we will put an injunction to restrain him from contesting. He has to come clean. He is there in the interest of the members. If he does not account for the money, we will put an injunction on him,” he noted.

About 150 delegates will converge at the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua on October 29, 2015 to elect executives who will steer the affairs of the union.

The filing of nominations for the elections runs from Monday, July 27 to Friday, August 28.
