Music Maestro Promises To Transform GHAMRO

Newly appointed GHAMRO chairman has promised to transform the music right organisation

Music maestro, Kojo Antwi believes he has been handed a “golden opportunity” to revive the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) as its new Board Chairman.

GHAMRO has for more than a year now been bedevilled by a series of controversies forcing the Human Rights Court in July 2014 to order the board led by Carlos Sakyi to step aside.

The court further appointed an interim board with the mandate to organise an election which will see a new board designated and inaugurated.

On Wednesday February 11, 2015, about 3,700 musicians and artistes, voted into power, the ‘Bomi Nkomo De’ hitmaker who contested the position unopposed.

Other new members voted to join the board led by him to serve a two-year term are James Kwaku Tuffour who beat Randy Noonoo George to become Deputy Chairman (Composer), while Ahmed Banda (Bandex) beat Dominic Anomah (Producer/Publisher) to the Deputy Chairman position.

Diana Hopeson, Zapp Mallet, Mary Ghansah, Nana Kwaku Duah (Tic Tac), Bessa Simons Henry, Augustina Addison were also elected as Board Members (Composers).

In an interview with Starr News’ Kwaku Obeng Adjei, Antwi, said he will ensure the rights of Ghanaian artistes are protected.

“GHAMRO is an institution that our potential hasn’t been explored in a way, and I am getting a golden opportunity to run the organisation given my contribution to the industry” he said

“I believe everything I’ve done in the past is some kind of contribution and the rights of musicians will surely be protected under my management,” Antwi concluded.
