Ghana’s celebrated club and radio DJ, DJ Black has recounted his journey into the DJ industry. With over 20 years experience in the game, the multiple award winning DJ is seen as an iconic figure in the music industry with international clout. Black, the winner of Rothmans’ Best DJ in West Africa 2001 and Ghana DJ Awards’ three-time overall “Best DJ of the Year” is no doubt Ghana’s most hardworking DJ to be recognised.
On Thursday, March 19, he posted a touching message on his facebook profile about the difficulties, setbacks, peer and family pressure he went through when he started the DJ journey years ago. His ultimate motivation was the trust he had in God.
He wrote (Unscripted) “I look back at my DJ Experience. I remember the sacrifice, the sweat, the tears, the dedication, the determination, the ups, the downs, the taunts, the jeers, the fights, the DJ battles ,the things I have gone through just to show the world that a DJ can also be a career. I remember the many times I nearly quit because of pressure from family and friends and hearing questions like," so what else do you do?"." Do you only play music?","when are you gonna stop?" Hmmm,... It will never stop, I don't know how I do it, but I know the man upstairs, the giver of life, YHWH gave me this gift for a reason and until he decides, the work must go on., today we have a lot of proud DJS making the motherland and me proud I've prayed to see the day when this work will speak for itself and YHWH praised .all I ever wanted was to inspire..I am DJ Black , Ghana ... Since ... 1995 #teamdjblack”
