In March 2011, it emerged that highlife musician, Papa Shee had stop doing music to be a messenger of the gospel. According to him, he had the calling when he was praying with his brother in the bush at Maryland-USA. Before this, he had performed at the Accra Sports Stadium in 2000 for the opening ceremony of the African Cup of Nations where it came to mind to win the crowd for God.
Nana Yaw Akosah, as known in private life during his days as a highlife artiste recorded songs like Mebo m'amanne sen nie (1994), Deda me (1996), Atadwe (2000), Koyon so (2002), and Ate pa (2004). Papa Shee who was criticised by a section of the Ghanaian populace for his ‘profane’ lyrics is now an evangelist who counsels and prays for people through “The Lords Tower Prayer line”.
K.K Kabobo known for hit songs like Nyatse Nyatse Girl, Running Away and Onyame Ehuwo opted for the pulpit after God spoke to him through some apostles and prophets. He was ordained as a Reverend Minister at Covenant Mission Bible College at Achimota in 2012 after a three month intensive Bible study course.
Kwabena Kwakye Kabobo decided to do reggae gospel songs instead of his usual highlife, saying, it would mean going back to his old ways. He released couple of songs which could not make a hit as his old highlife tunes.
He was born Victor Kpakpo Addo Jnr. He is a former disk jockey and a rapper. Many know him as Azigiza Jnr. He started as a dancer with the G-Dancers, who danced with some top Ghanaian musicians, Ben Brako and Charles Amoah. Azigiza Jnr’s first album Medo Wo Abena was released in 1994 and followed it with Two Degrees Kponkpa and Wo Ye Bea in 1995 and 1996 respectively.

According to him, he began paying serious attention to God at a time when he was losing some of his few business contracts. He gave his life to Christ in 1998.
Azigiza Jnr. released his debut gospel album Into the Light in 2002.
Lord Kenya, real name, Abraham Philip Akpor Kojo Kenya in 2010 declared that he was born again. According to him, he was ‘arrested’ by the Holy Spirit as he was on his way to get drugs at his usual ‘wee’ joint.
He is known for his hit songsMe Do, Sika Baa, Sika, Driver, Akasiani, Ennwon No among others. He has stated on countless number of occasions that he is fulfilled with his walk with God though he can boast of his Testimony and Christ Life gospel album which could not hit as his secular songs.

Evangelist Kenya has since made several revelations about his old ways of life including his use of drugs, beating his father and wife. The ‘rap heavyweight champion’ has said that he wished he could erase those memories.
Currently, he oversees Stars Fellowship, an initiative of the New Lord Kenya Outreach Ministries to draw superstars closer to Christ.
Akosua Agyepong, a former member of the defunct Nakorex music group switched from secular music to gospel. She announced this in 2003 with her ten track album I Belong To You which had songs like My God Is Good, Gyidie and Som Nyame.
The then member of Rev. Christine Doe-Tetteh`s Solid Rock Church, said her engagement with the church choir and other singing groups in the church inspired her to do gospel.

Akosua Agyepong is married to Prophet Daniel Larbi, founder and leader of House of God Prayer Ministry.
After releasing hit songs, Emmanuella, Otoolege, Odwo and others, highlife artiste Ofori Amponsah in July 2012, noted that he had received the calling of God to be a pastor. He quit music to become a full-time Pastor at the Holy Grounds Sanctuary. He subsequently released a single Ofori Ateahwe which could not hit.
Ofori Amponsah who collaborated with musicians like Kofi Nti, Barosky and K. K. Fosu during his heydays however announced earlier this year his decision to return to secular music. He insisted that it would not conflict with his work as a Pastor.
He is currently out with undefined, a love song which features Sarkodie.

Yaw Siki, a Tema based rapper made a resolution to stop writing secular music after he was involved in a near fatal accident on the Tema-Motorway road. The incident which happened on April 15, 2013 led to the Wope Dodo singer’s admission to the hospital for several months.
According to him, doctors had said he would undergo a critical medical procedure with a 50-50 chance of survival. Without the operation, he was healed by God after he prayed for forgiveness and healing. It was at that point that he decided to quit secular music and win souls for Christ.
Yaw Siki has since released songs like Thank You, Ohene among others.
Unfortunately, songs released by these artistes after their decision to go gospel have not made hits as their secular songs. Factors that have accounted for this still remain a mystery.
