As 2015 draws to a close, controversial musician Wanlov the Kubolor is revealing that the year has been the worst year for him in Ghana.

A major contributor, the musician lamented, was the never-ending power crisis which affected Ghanaians and businesses badly in the year.

“I do have glimpses of different people’s perspective but I can only speak for myself and I feel this has been the worst year of my life in Ghana,” Wanlov told Kojo Yankson in an interview on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM Tuesday.

On May 16 this year, Wanlov joined some celebrities, including Van Vicker, Yvonne Nelson, Prince David Osei and DKB, for a vigil dubbed dumsormuststop to put pressure on the government to find a solution to the severe power crisis now referred to as ‘Dumsor’.

Wanlov lamented on the Super Morning Show that, “because of the light off, [you will] have to spend GHc50 a night on generator because you have to work either to record or do some computer or to just have your fan on because it's hot. It has been for me a very bad year.”

He was particularly worried that during the year, the fuel and electricity bill kept going up “they had the audacity to do that.”

“I’ve had people actually leave [the country], close down businesses close friends of mine just because of that. I can’t think of a year that has been like this,”
he revealed.

The controversial musician, who wore his iconic Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) helmet, believes that the most prudent way to solve the power crisis is to divert plans of renting a power barge to investing into solar energy. “Because solar, they fly in the equipment, they will set up and we’ve bought it. It’s ours right away,” he said.

While he admits he is not well vest in energy and energy issues, he said he knows that getting a power barge is a bad idea because “we as a cultural practice turn to go where there is a shortcut for immediate money. We don’t think of something that is long term that will benefit us financially we just of where we can get those 10%.”

“I know definitely that this barge idea is the worst possible idea. I just know that just because of the way we function currently nobody wants to sign a contract which will not benefit them in that moment,” he added.
