2015 Ghana Music Awards Will Surprises at Industry Awards Set The Tone For The Big Event?

On Monday, April 6, industry players gathered at the Alisa Hotel in Accra for the first leg of the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. 10 technical awards decided by the VGMA Board and Academy were handed out with fans disagreeing to some winners on social media. What has been termed 'surprises' by many on social media includes Koda winning Record of the Year with 'Nkwa Abodo' and Wiyaala winning Songwriter of the Year with 'Africa'.

Wiyaala and Koda beat more popular and huge favourites such as Daddy Lumba, Sarkodie, Efya and Mzvee in their respective categories. So does this set the tone for the main awards slated for April 11 at the Accra International Conference Centre? Will there be more surprises?

DJ Breezy, Evangelist Diana Asamoah and also picked up awards at the Industry Awards on Monday night.  The night which witnessed performances from Emelia Arthur, Efya, Ras Kuuku and Raquel, also saw veteran musician, Nana Ampadu receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Below is the full list of winners:

  • Gospel Album of the Year – Evangelist Diana Asamoah for ‘Pentecost Asorendwom’
  • Record of the Year goes – Koda for ‘Nkwa Abodo’
  • Most outstanding songwriter of the Year – Wiyaala  for ‘Africa’
  • Producer of the year – DJ Breezy for ‘Seiho’ by Castro ft. D-Black
  • Sound Engineer of the year – George Forest
  • Best traditional artist of the year – King Ayisoba
  • World Bank Awards for music for development – Nii Okai  for Save A Heart Foundation
  • Instrumentalist of the year – Frank Kissi
  • MUSIGA Merit Award – J.V. Owusu
  • Lifetime achievement award - Nana Ampadu
