Indian offices declare holiday to watch new movie starring Rajinikanth
Even before the premiere, the film has yielded about $30 million in film rights sales.

South Indian businesses have declared Friday, July 22, 2016, a holiday for their employees. The holiday declaration is to allow their staff attend screenings of a new film starring Tamil cinema superstar Rajinikanth.

Business owners explained that they declared a holiday to prevent their employees from turning off their phones, calling in sick or just failing to report for work. A company based in Bangalore said it had declared a holiday to "avoid sick leaves; mobile switch offs and mass bunks". Another company said it did same to "avoid piled up leave requests to the HR department".

A lot of South Indians are excited as the day for the screening draws nearer. ‘Kabali’, the latest movie is to be released on about 12,000 screens. Even before the premiere, the film has yielded about $30 million in film rights sales.
Rajinikanth, the 65-year-old actor, has starred in over 170 films, mostly in the Tamil language. He is one of Asia's highest paid actors and is considered one of the most bankable stars in India.
