Sharp's 85-inch 8K TV

Are you already tired of all the crisp 4K video at your disposal? Are you longing for more?

There could be a $133,000 solution available for you to switch it up soon. Sharp has announced what is technically the world’s first 8K production TV, the LV-85001.

Technically speaking, this 85-inch monitor does have a TV tuner in it but will not pick up any 8K content yet – though it may be used to help tests broadcasts next year.

Instead, Sharp is positioning the TV as a monitor for businesses that can make use of the ultra-high resolution of the TV.

8K has dimensions of 7680 x 4320, which the same as 14 pixels per inch based on the 85-inch size. 8K outputs also require the use of four HDMI 2.0 inputs.

Sharp says the IGZO panel’s contrast ratio is 100,000:1 with viewing angle of 176 degrees. The company says it will be available for purchase from October 31, after a demonstration at the CEATEC trade show early next month.
