In an interview with Pulse.com.gh, the Regional Health Director, Dr. Alexis Nanbeifuba said the disease "is a reflection of the seasonality of that disease. During the dry season, that is what we expect...There is nothing spectacular about it. We just have to keep an eye on it."

The outbreak of the disease which began in December 2015 in the Tain District of the Brong Ahafo Region has claimed several lives.

The disease later spread to Wenchi, Techiman, Bruohan, Kintampo, and Sene districts all in the Brong Ahafo Region.
