The Ministry of Health has sent a cheque amount of GhC 300,000 together with medications worth GHC 100,000 to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

The Ministry also donated some tuna fishes to the hospital. The Ministry explained that the items presented are to help solve some major challenges facing the hospital.

In a press statement signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry, he said they realised “the hospital had some stocks of non-consumable items including treatment gloves which can last until May 2017.”

“We hope that that dedicated source of funding identified by the government to supporting the Mental Health Fund in the Act will help resolve this long stand financial challenge in the psychiatric front.”

Nurses at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital declared an indefinite strike effective Monday, October 31 following what they call government’s failure to provide the facility with the basic logistics needed to carry out their work effectively.

According to the nurses, attempts to get a lasting solution to their problems have proved futile.

Chairperson of the Nurses, Jamila Hussein had earlier told Pulse.com.gh that the nurses have resolved to stay away from the patients at the wards until their needs are addressed.

“For now we are out of the ward...”we don’t have the things to make the place conducive enough for us. We are not in the wards attending to any patient unless our needs are met. We are at the post but we are not working. We are running away from the danger zone,” she said.
