Victims receive support from government

The Minister for Health Alex Segbefia who made the presentation said this was in fulfilment of government’s promise after the he visited the victims in the various hospitals.

The Minister for Health Alex Segbefia who made the presentation said this was in fulfilment of government’s promise after the he visited the victims in the various hospitals.

The hospitals presented with the money and other medical supplies are the 37 Military hospital, La General Polyclinic, Korle-bu Teaching hospital and the Police hospital.

Segbefia said the government will “do its best to provide more” if it is required.

Lt Col Richard Atara on behalf of all the facilities expressed their appreciation to the government, the Ministry and other stakeholders that have supported them since the accident.

He said more assistance will be welcomed by the facilities since there is no timeline for offering help.

“We still need more assistance. Disaster has no timeline so the assistance is welcome at any point in time.”

Accra on Thursday was hit by yet another major fire at a gas station near the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre which has claimed nine lives so far and injured many.

The National Petroleum Authority says the explosion was caused by 'irresponsible human error'.

Chief Executive Officer of the NPA, Mr. Moses Asaga, explained that two bolts which should have tightened the lid on the gas tanker were missing.
